Go The Distance CIC

Go the Distance (GTD) is a Community Interest Company (CIC) set up to create a pathway for young people focusing on four core areas: Sport, Education, Employability, Mental Health.

Sporting activities used as a vehicle to help young people in the Durham and Sunderland area of the Northeast of England with mental health, behaviour, and confidence issues to access positive engagement via additional education and training outside of a school environment.

Our approach is to work with young people by helping them to re-engage with their education program, use sport to build confidence and discipline and build their mindset up to a level where they can believe in themselves and improve self-esteem.

Elvet Striders

Elvet Striders is a running club based in the beautiful city of Durham. We are a friendly and sociable running club catering for adult runners of all abilities. Since its founding in 1985 it has grown from a small club to one with several hundred members. We have runners who are interested in everything from Track and Field to Ultra marathons. Whatever your interests, there is bound to be someone in the club who shares that interest.

The club has strong traditional interests in Cross Country (Northeast Harrier League), road, trail and fell running, but there are people who have little interest in racing and are happy to jog around a park run every now and then. All are welcome regardless of interest and level of competitive spirit.

Our club meets for training on Monday and Wednesday evenings throughout the year. We are based at Durham University’s sports centre at Maiden Castle but also hold sessions at the track in Chester-le-Street, and at other venues in and around the city.
