Middleton Wanderers Walking Football Club
Walking, Gym and Walking Football
We are a walking football club in Middleton-in-Teesdale, we started in April 2021 just after covid restrictions were lifted, we currently have approx. 26 members ranging from their 30s to 70s are open to all regardless of experience and ability and are looking to actively grow the club.
We have expressed and interest to register and over 50s and over 60s team in a league which Durham F.A. are looking to start in September 2022.
The biggest difference, as the name suggests, is there is no running. Walking football is played at walking pace, with players not allowed to run. This includes with the ball or off the ball, and includes jogging. You can ‘walk’ as fast as you want and walking as described in the rules is “one foot must be in contact with the ground at all times.”
One other big difference to association or 5-a-side football is that it’s classed as non-contact sport. Although tackling is allowed, this must be done with no contact. Come and give it a go, we have a great group who love the game and the camaraderie.
We have also started a fun run at the same venue on a Saturday morning, this is for anybody that wants to come along and exercise whilst also socialise.
