Spenny Striders
We are a friendly running group based in Spennymoor, welcoming runners of all abilities. We currently meet twice a week:
Monday evenings at 6:00 pm outside Rosa Street Primary School. This session is suitable for all abilities.
Wednesday evenings at 6:00 pm outside the Town Hall. We run a 5-mile route that changes weekly, open to all paces.
We are an informal, non-affiliated group (though this may change in the future if there’s interest) who enjoy running together, sharing company, and having fun along the way. Our group is fully inclusive, so do not be put off if you’re a complete beginner or an experienced runner—all are welcome!

Ferryhill Miners Youth FC
West Cornforth Miners U18 & U14s
We are a newly founded football team in West Cornforth to help provide a safe community for young children and young adults to help maintain people’s fitness whilst keeping people off the streets and out of trouble. We are wanting to create an under-fourteen’s team to provide a space for the age range of 12-14 as currently this range does not have any youth clubs or organisations in the local area. Due to this, we believe it is necessary to have a safe environment for all ages to contribute to. We will also be creating an under-eighteen’s team to help this age range into balancing work and study life to having an active area to be on a weekend. Having these two age groups will help us bring the local community together whilst helping us expand to teams starting off at under four’s all the way up to the under eighteens.
Elite Player Development
Elite Player Development (EPD) is a community-focused football coaching organisation dedicated to supporting the youth of County Durham, particularly within Spennymoor, Ferryhill, Bishop Auckland, Sedgefield, and Newton Aycliffe. Our sessions are open to all standards and abilities, catering to youth up to age 18 and offering specialized opportunities for women and girls in football. Through engaging, inclusive sessions that build technical skills and confidence, EPD aims to provide a positive outlet for young people, fostering teamwork, discipline, and resilience.
By providing structured, skill-focused sessions, EPD addresses behavioural issues often tied to lack of constructive activities, while promoting mental well-being through physical fitness, team camaraderie, and personal achievement. In the short term, we aim to reduce local anti-social behaviour and improve community engagement. Long-term, we’re committed to supporting a healthier, more connected County Durham by developing confident, motivated youth who can become positive role models within their communities.
